Why is SOMA such a good game?
What it may lack in gameplay elements, it more than makes up with a deep philosophical story that will make the player think as deeply as few games have ever managed before. A masterpiece of audio and visual design, SOMA is atmospheric, cerebral, and occasionally frustrating. Philip Kollar of Polygon also gave the game a 9/10 and wrote: I don’t know if SOMA will scare people as much as Amnesia did, but it is without a doubt a stronger game, with better pacing, smarter writing and more powerful subject matter. There’s an argument to be made that Amnesia: The Dark Descent might just be the scariest game ever made, even if you don’t scare easily.
Is SOMA like Dead Space?
Soma [Best Existential Sci-Fi Alternative to Dead Space] Soma combines sci-fi horror with existential dread: you’re in a flooded, abandoned research facility where the real horror comes from both creatures and the story itself. Here, combat is limited, so stealth, strategy, and critical thinking are key to survival. Yes to me again, Alien Isolation is scary but when compared to Soma. I think SOMA is scarier because on how it’s implied at least that humanity is extinct. You’re “all alone” in the literal sense as you journey throughout PATHOS 2.
