Doom 3 was a reboot that tried to make the game more horror-focused, which some fans didn’t love. I think doom 3’s story was a bit too heavy on the horror and not enough on the action for some fans. The original doom games were more about action and fast-paced gameplay, whereas doom 3 tried to tell a story. Which doom game should you play first? There are two logical starting points for new players: doom (1993) or doom (2016). Most players are better off starting with the 2016 version given its modern design. However, if you’re hellbent on experiencing the full story, your starting point has to be the 1993 original.

Extremely gruesome brutal violence and literally non-stop bloody action throughout. Overall, Doom Eternal is by far one of the most brutally violent video games ever created. This isn’t a continuation of pure classic DOOM, this is an evolution. The monsters are darker and scarier, the environments are also…darker and scarier, and the music is a whole different vibe that is, once again, darker and scarier.

With its realistic floor and ceiling textures, Doom added greatly to the sense of embodied movement that defined the first-person shooter genre. Fun fact: Doom is now a Microsoft property, along with Quake, StarCraft, WarCraft, Overwatch, all of the adventure games from Infocom and Sierra, and of course Halo. Microsoft pretty much owns most of PC gaming.
