What is Unity Hub used for?
The Unity Hub is a standalone application for accessing the Unity ecosystem. This is used for things like managing your Unity projects, installing Editor versions, licensing and installing add-on components. Note: The Unity Editor can be installed as a standalone application meaning the Hub is not a requirement. However, not using the Hub can cause some limitations, for example, not having a user interface to manage Unity ID sign-in, license activation and project management.
