For many fans, The King of Fighters ’98 is considered to be the definitive game in the entire series. It was promoted by SNK not as a mainline entry but more of a ‘greatest hits’ collection, pulling together all of the characters seen in all of the titles released up to that point.The King of Fighters ’98: Dream Match Never Ends (and its remake The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match), is not listed in the canonical story, as it is a Dream Match game (a title that have little or no canon story to it).
