Is the universe Sandbox free?
Universe Sandbox is a free game. You may have some “goal” to complete but it’s only purpose is to give a general objective and not a necessity. Since the end goal of a sandbox game isn’t to complete the game but to have as much fun as possible within the environment.

Our first planned major release of 2026 is our physics architecture overhaul that will simulate meteors (atmospheric drag) and improve lasers. We’re also continuing development on life simulation, bringing Universe Sandbox to mobile devices, and other grand plans. Planned Release Date: Apr 28, 2026.

Work on a new version of the game, originally titled Universe Sandbox2, began in 2011. In November 2018, the original Universe Sandbox was renamed to Universe Sandbox Legacy, and the new version was then renamed to Universe Sandbox in December.
