Are 51% of gamers female?
Globally, 51% of the gamers in the study identified as male, and 48% identified as female, nearly even. The majority of American gamers are actually female at 52%. Meanwhile, gamers in countries like Brazil and South Africa skew heavily female, with women making up 57% and 58% of their gamer populations, respectively. However, our data shows that 17% of active gamers are LGBTQ, a 70% percent increase from the 10% counted in Nielsen’s 2020 report. The scale and growth of LGBTQ gamers is significant. Notably, the percentage of LGBTQ gamers is even higher among younger age groups, with 23 to 28% of gamers under 35 identifying as LGBTQ.
