What is Recon short for?
In military jargon, reconnaissance is abbreviated to recce (in British, Canadian, Australian English) and to recon (in American English), both derived from the root word reconnoitre / reconnoitering. United States Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance, otherwise known as Force Recon, units are a special operations force under the command of the United States Marine Corps. Many Force Recon Marines have now been integrated into MARSOC, however the Corps still retains its own dedicated Force Recon units.
What is a recon sniper?
Force Recon sniper teams are expert shots who can set up on high ground in order to provide overwatch for Force Recon operations. Force Reconnaissance Marines carry out deep reconnaissance operations, often operating far from their MAGTF’s area of influence. Special reconnaissance (SR) is conducted by small units, such as a recon team, made up of highly trained military personnel, usually from special forces units and/or military intelligence organizations. Special reconnaissance teams operate behind enemy lines, avoiding direct combat and detection by the enemy.
