What is MMO vs RPG?
The difference between MMO and MMORPG is that all MMORPGs are MMOs, but not all MMOs are MMORPGs. MMORPG are, by definition, a type of RPG, while an MMO can be anything from a battle royale action title to a real-time strategy game or even a new type of interactive experience that defies genres. MMORPGs and MMOs are two hugely popular genres within video games. MMORPG stands for massively multiplayer online role-playing games, with MMO standing for just massively multiplayer online (game). Based on these acronyms, it’s plausible that MMO is just a shortened version of MMORPG, but this isn’t entirely true.Games may have MMO features like large worlds with online persistence but still not generally be considered an MMO, such as Grand Theft Auto V’s online play, while other games like League of Legends have small individual sessions but the global infrastructure requirements often allow for classification as an MMO.
