The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. Tears of the Kingdom is so successful because it marries an impressive sense of scale with a mechanical granularity that means you can always interact with its wide-open sandbox in creative, surprising ways.Tears of the Kingdom is a better game mechanically as it offers more. But Breath of the Wild feels more grounded.

Although Link is a male character, Aonuma said that he wanted him to be gender neutral in Ocarina of Time: I wanted the player to think ‘Maybe Link is a boy or a girl’. If you saw Link as a guy, he’d have more of a feminine touch.In the official Nintendo narrative, Link is safely marked as a straight boy, but allows for some gender fluidity as a marker of inclusivity – girls can ‘relate to’ Link, just like boys can.
