Death Stranding is getting a movie adaptation, but it won’t be your typical Hollywood blockbuster. Why does Sam hate being touched in Death Stranding?
Sam suffers from aphenphosmphobia, a fear of being touched. As noted by his late wife Lucy, this condition was likely caused (or at least aggravated) by limited social interaction as a child. Sam initially overcame this condition through his relationship with Lucy but regressed upon her death. As revealed in Episode 11: Quake of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Lucy had maintained a secret relationship with Neil Vana while married to Sam. Upon becoming pregnant with Lou, however, she ended her relationship with Neil.Lucy and Sam fell in love, and she was pregnant with his child. In the first Death Stranding, the story given to Sam was that Lucy committed suicide. That appears not to be the case.
