Is POG good or bad?
Pog is short for Poggers. A term origantiging from Twitch which is used as a Hype/Good word to symbolise something positive, aka, Bro, this meme is absolute poggers! Lib on the other hand is short for Liberal. Some people tend to use the term Liberal as an ironic insult to anyone who disagrees with them. POG” means Play Of (the) Game, to most people. However it is derived from the PogChamp(ion) emote on Twich. Whilst other meanings for “POG” exist, you are most likely to see it used by your child if they are into online gaming, where it basically means “excellent” or “awesome”.Pog (or Poggers) is a slang expression used online, especially in gaming and streaming communities, to show excitement, amazement, or hype.
Who started Pog?
The name came from a popular drink called POG, made by Haleakala Dairy in Hawaii, which was a blend of passion fruit, orange and guava juice. To promote their drink, Haleakala began producing the cardboard disks used in the game. Unlike Green River or Melona—flavors revered in Hawai’i but not from Hawai’i—POG was created on Maui at Haleākala Dairy (now Meadow Gold) in 1971.
Is POG banned?
The Verge describes the removal of PogChamp as part of Twitch’s move towards becoming more mainstream by detaching themselves from hateful behavior in the gaming community. CNN describes the use of PogChamp as a gamer’s expression for excitement, expanding the use of the PogChamp emote to the word PogChamp and its variants Pog and Poggers to describe particularly awesome moments.
What killed POGs?
Brands kept on pumping out these marketing medallions, but by the mid 90s their appeal was beginning to wane. The ultimate demise of POGS was also helped along by the banning of the game in some schools, as the game was deemed to be too much like gambling. Unfortunately many schools discovered that students were wagering their POGs as part of the game, and considered the practice to be a form of gambling. This lead to POGs being banned in may schools diminishing their popularity, and eventually contributing the the decline of the game into obscurity.
