As the name implies, it’s a bug that happens when you reach level 256. The original game used only a single byte or 8 bits to store the level number. The original arcade version of Pac-Man had 255 levels, but due to a programming error, level 256 was unbeatable, and the game would glitch out. As a result, the game’s creators decided to end the game at level 255, which is why most versions of Pac-Man today only have 255 levels.Pac Man never ends.
