Is Neverwinter a city?

The City of Skilled Hands’ due to the unusually large population of trained craftsman and artisans. This was immediately important after the eruption of Mount Hotenow (more below) ‘The Jewel of the North’, as Neverwinter lies as one of the last significant and civilised cities among the savage cold lands of the North. The City is temperate, shielded by sea breezes from the worst of winter storms and summer heat. The Neverwinter River flows warmly throughout the year, steaming on chilly winter days and keeping the port free of ice in the coldest months.

Why is it called Neverwinter?

The name of the city has its origin in that even though the town is situated in the cold north of Faerûn, the Neverwinter river that flows through it is heated by fire elementals living under the nearby Mount Hotenow in the Neverwinter Wood. Neverwinter is situated on the Sword Coast, the western edge of the Faerûn continent.

Why was Neverwinter destroyed?

Artemis Entreri recounting the Ruining, 1463 DR. The eruption caused the northern peak of the Mount Hotenow volcano to explode, sending a pyroclastic flow of superheated ash, fiery boulders, and lava directly into the city of Neverwinter. On the southwest edge of The Crags mountain range sits a smoking volcano known as Mount Hotenow. A few decades ago, the partial awakening of a Primordial deep underground caused Mount Hotenow to erupt in an explosion of lethal ash and flame, nearly destroying the city of Neverwinter.
