HK by far. More content, better looking, better sound, more interesting and unique world and locations, responsive controls, customisable character skills and playstyles, and it costs far less than Dread. As a big Metroid fan who wanted to say Dread, Hollow knight wins this in a landslide. Dread is significantly harder by any metric. It’s the hardest game in the series, not counting Metroid 1 with its NES Era BS.Finally beat Metroid Dread and let me tell you this game was a lot more fun and harder than I expected. Definitely worth it though. I personally feel dread is the pinnacle of Metroid at this point. Best controlling Samus in the series, in depth upgrades, dodging killer robots.

It’s challenging, not hard for the sake of being hard. If you’re playing smart and not just mashing, especially against bosses, you’ll be fine. I can’t say about hard mode, but normal mode is fun. The bosses take some time to learn the patters but other than that it’s not particularly difficult. I would describe it as extremely difficult but not punishing or unfair. All of the challenges make sense and with practice and thinking you’ll get good enough. Also the check points are generous. Dread was a bit easier than Super Metroid.
