Although the planned sequel of Alice: Madness Returns, Alice: Asylum, was ultimately canceled, an independent creator called Anri Gveras (@anrigveras) has undertaken the development of a fan-made version inspired by the original concept and its design bible. What is the story behind Alice: Madness Returns?
Alice was discharged from a psychiatric clinic and now lives in an orphanage for mentally traumatized orphans under the care of Dr. Angus Bumby. To get rid of the trauma and learn the truth about her past, she once again falls into Wonderland, where a new evil force has corrupted it. The loss of her family had caused severe mental trauma which placed her into Rutledge when her behavior became volatile, and she was deemed a danger to herself and everyone around her. Years ago, she was apparently killed by Sade but revives later in the story, reuniting with her daughter.
