How scary is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?
A dark tone and some horror elements may scare younger children. Scenes of violence are largely fantastical as witches and wizards blast each other with magical spells. The protagonist is also temporarily cursed with a spell that causes the lines he writes on a page to be scratched into his hand. Much of the condemnation of Harry Potter comes from a small number of evangelical Christians who hold that the series’s depiction of witchcraft is dangerous to children.
