How much did an Atari cost in 1977?
The Atari 2600. Wow this was not the first video game console I ever owned. It is certainly among the oldest. This thing came out in September 1977 and cost $290. Atari is on the rise which means more games and awesome stuff to come in 2025 and 2026. We will see more games across the board on the Atari VCS and other platforms. Atari has had an amazing 2024 and 2025 is looking even.
Why did Atari fail?
In 1986, Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi noted that Atari collapsed because they gave too much freedom to third-party developers and the market was swamped with rubbish games. Warshaw also believes that Atari’s downfall was more a result of their business practices—including alleged block booking of poorly selling games with successful ones when dealing with distributors—than any specific failed games.
