Is Devotion a scary game?
Devotion is a game that’s more than just fetching keys, clues, photos, and other effects to unravel the family’s depression and subsequent destruction. The scares are subtle, but no less unsettling. Devotion is a pretty good horror game, full of surprises and tension. We didn’t enjoy that much the walking simulator part of it, but we did enjoy it overall.
Why was the game Devotion banned?
The game also incorporates elements based on Taiwanese culture and folk religion. The game was released on February 19, 2019, but was removed from Steam shortly afterwards on February 26, after a controversial Easter egg referencing Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, was found in the game. There has been no official announcement whether the ban was enforced by the Chinese government or by Taobao. However, the game is still on-sale on the Chinese grey market.
