Is Origin shutting down in 2025?
EA is officially shutting down Origin on April 17, 2025, moving everyone to the EA App. If you’re still on a 32- bit setup, you’ll probably need to upgrade your PC to keep playing your games. In September 2020, EA announced its plans to retire Origin in favor for a new desktop client that will support the new EA Play and EA Play Pro subscriptions. It is expected all Origin content will carry over to the new EA Desktop client once it is fully released.However, Origin will be shut down on 17 April 2025 because Microsoft has stopped supporting 32-bit software. All Origin users will have to switch to the new EA app. The beta test for this EA app started in September 2020, followed by the release of the full version two years later.
Does EA no longer use Origin?
Now, EA is altogether discontinuing Origin, which will be effective April 17, 2025. By then, you’ll need to switch to the EA app, which has been available since 2020 and serves as the new launcher for EA’s games. The switch is necessary to continue using purchased games and save data. The EA app has replaced Origin as the main platform for downloading and launching The Sims 4 for both Mac and PC.
