The only money Gameloft was supposed to earn from the game after launch was through microtransactions. Then they realized everyone would still pay to buy the game, so it went from free at launch, to $60 or whatever pack you buy AND you can buy moonstones, etc. You can play the majority of the game without spending money. The only thing that costs actual money is the game itself and moonstones for premium shop items, which do not effect game play at all. If you’re not enjoying the basic tasks and missions then nothing really changes, with or without money.
